Introducation to University of Essex
The University of Essex (UoEssex) is a public research university in Essex, England. The
University comprises three campuses with primary campus located within Wivenhoe Park and
campuses in Southend-on-Sea and in Loughton. The IWSDA'2022 will be held in the campus of
Wivenhoe park, which is a landscaped green space of more than 200 acres at the eastern edge of
Colchester (Britain's oldest recorded town, 80 kilometres northeast of London). Home to a range
of plants and wildlife including some extraordinary and historic trees, Wivenhoe Park was
immortalised in oils by world-famous painter John Constable in 1816. His painting, Wivenhoe Park
(shown below) is now in the National Gallery of Art, Washington DC.
As one of the premier universities in the UK, UoEssex has a strong emphasis on research and
industry linkage. In the recent national Research Excellence Framework (REF'2014), UoEssex
has been ranked among one of the top 20 UK universities for its quality research. In 2018,
it was named University of the Year at Times Higher Education Awards. Since 2017, it has
been rated Gold for Teaching Excellence by the TEF.
